HISTORY
Founded in 1972, Compel Electronics has emerged as a global leader in the design and manufacture of RF, Microwave, Millimeter wave and Optic interconnect, component, sub-system and antenna products. Through a diversified base of competencies, the company has built a reputation for technical innovation and overall flexibility in servicing and collaborating with an impressive list of world class customers that include; Alcatel, Siemens, Ericsson, IBM, Marconi, Cisco, Olivetti, Thomson, Bosch and Motorola.

Initially focused in the field of molded plastics, Compel was started on the premise of possessing leading edge technology and vertical integration capabilities. In fact, it was the plastics group that conceptualized inserting plated metal contacts into a molded plastic housing to develop their first multi-pin connector assembly. Driven by the founder; Ferdinando Colombo, this concept has grown Compel into a dynamic group of 18 companies each with the competency to develop, manufacture and promote specific products. Each company utilizes centralized, shared services that take advantage of cross-synergies within the Group and offer highly competitive pricing to the evolving Telecommunications market.

TestingFACILITIES & PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES
The Compel group has 600 employees at 15 individual factories spread throughout Italy with engineering centralized in the industrial North and manufacturing situated in the labor-rich South. Additional sales and distribution facilities exist in Europe and the United States to manage a global network of agents and representatives.

Each manufacturing facility is equipped with the latest capital machinery required to efficiently and effectively design and produce product from prototype through production phases.

Automatic turning and milling machines, as well as plastic molding presses, which are digitally controlled by CAD stations, provide the basis for sculpting raw materials for component bodies and housings. Circuit substrate realization is supported by state-of-the-art deposition or screen printing on ceramics (thin and thick film), chip and wire line, pick & place, reflow/wave soldering, and ultrasonic cleaning equipment. Captive continuous line plating provides for selective deposition of precious metals for on-reel or loose parts.

In-process and final electrical and mechanical test is conducted through a wide array of electrical ATE equipment to 60GHz, X-ray/laser/in-circuit inspection equipment, comparators and electronic microscopes. Custom automatic assembly equipment is utilized by several factories to ensure economical efficiencies during high volume manufacturing. In-house metrological and environmental test laboratories allow us to support customer-driven field simulation of any product produced as well as their qualifications.

All facilities are controlled by comprehensive MIS systems and follow the guidelines of ISO-9001. Several facilities include class 1,000 and 10,000 clean room environments to insure efficient manufacture of sensitive devices.

Compel invests 7% of annual sales back into research and development and staffs this sector with world class, highly experienced engineers and Physicists that are responsible for driving the future technological vision of the company.

State of the art electrical and mechanical simulation design tools are used in tandem with dedicated quick-reaction prototype capabilities in order to realize new designs quickly and afford fast time to market.

Our design personnel are dedicated to satisfying the demands of customer requirements by finding the best economic and technological solution for their specific needs. To do this, we work very closely and confidentially with customers at their facility or ours to thoroughly understand short and longterm system goals so that the optimal solution can be put forth.

Compel works in accordance with a stringent internal quality system designed to guarantee that quality and reliability is built-in to all products produced within the company. In addition to our own internal guidelines, all factories are certified to ISO-9001 or -9002 standards.

Our dedicated quality laboratories perform qualification testing, technological analysis, failure analysis, inspection and component and material characterization using the most advanced electronic, mechanical and physical/chemical measurement equipment available.
